Sharmin Mukerjea, Chairperson of Jaidip Mukerjea Tennis Academy (JMTA) is a multi-faceted entrepreneur and philanthropist with umpteen flairs up her sleeves. She is a renowned fashion designer, a coveted documentary film maker, an avid photographer, an eloquent writer, a chic interior designer, a meticulous event organiser, a brilliant administrator and a passionate sports lover, to name a few areas of her excellence. Her love for Lawn Tennis has ignited in her a passion to promote the game to newer heights in and across the country alongside her husband, Jaidip Mukerjea, the living legend, former Captain of the Indian Davis Cup Team and a part of the “The Three Musketeers” or “The Terrific Trio” of Indian Tennis!

It was during her time in New Delhi between 1990 and 2001 that Sharmin finally started to unleash the creative urge that had been taking shape in her heart from her early days in San Francisco. New Delhi, a city with its rich heritage and a tolerance for both the new and the old, proved to be a perfect hunting ground for her creative pursuits in fashion designing and television programming. It was here that Sharmin rose time and again from her own ashes like the proverbial phoenix to re-invent herself and bounce back to success to live to tell her fascinating and extremely painful tale. Sharmin’s foray into fashion designing saw her rise to fame once again with the ‘Nine to Five’ collection for the Indian working women, a brand associated with celebrated divas such as Sushmita Sen, Anupama Verma, Manpreet Kaur and Shikha Swarup, who gladly endorsed the fashion range for its vibrant yet simple taste and bold statements.

Her passion for creativity as a documentary film maker has been repeatedly seen through her lenses when she created a series of informative and entertaining programs on Indian life and culture. Sharmin’s philanthropic side, albeit less known, gives a glimpse of the strong and selfless individual that she is. She takes a deep interest in and has regularly contributed to, various charitable and social causes without much fanfare and ado.

A reflection of Sharmin’s mind and soul seems to be resonating in every nook and corner of JMTA, her residence and various projects that she has touched including event and tournament organisation, interior designing and landscaping. In her own words, “I am rediscovering myself. There are so many ‘MEs’ within ME …. one as a wife who is extremely caring and dutiful to her husband, another as a proud mother, another as a calm and composed workaholic when it comes to her job, and yet another as a young girl who is back spreading her wings of love ….” Sharmin is a fervent thinker, an arduous visualizer, a brilliant administrator and an excellent implementer with a rock-solid positive attitude endeavouring to make a difference in the scene for our beloved game of Tennis!
